2024 Star of Tomorrow Award Recipients

Our 2024 Star of Tomorrow Award Winners. Each will receive a $4,000 scholarship, paid in two $2,000 increments.

Melia Mitskavich

Melia Mitskavich is a senior carrying a 4.0 GPA at DuBois Central Catholic High School in DuBois, Pennsylvania, while also taking courses for college credit. In the classroom, Melia has made the First Honors Honor Roll each quarter of her high school career while taking multiple honors and AP classes. She is also a member of the National Honor Society (grades 10-12) and served on the Student Council during her junior year. Melia is a recent graduate of the Dale Carnegie Class which teaches leadership and public speaking skills. She will graduate from high school having earned 15 college credits.

Her extracurricular activities include time spent as a member of the Rotary Interact Club (10-12th grades), Cardinal Ambassador Program (12th grade) and varsity volleyball and softball teams (all four years). Melia has donated her time and talent to organizations such as The Salvation Army, St. Mary’s Church, the Rotary Radio Auction, the Little League Regional Baseball Tournament, as a volunteer scorekeeper for middle and high school basketball games and is also a peer tutor.

On the lanes, Melia earned the USBC National High Average Award - Youth Female in consecutive seasons (2021-2022 and 2022-2023 when she averaged 237 and 236 respectively). She is a five-time Pennsylvania Girls State Pepsi Champion and a two-time Allegheny Mountain Bowling Association Youth Bowler of the Year (2021-2022 and 2022-2023), and many more.

Melia will be attending Jacksonville State University this fall and plans to major in Pre-Health Biology with the goal of attending Optometry School.

Josiah Casler

Josiah Casler is a junior at Conestoga High School in Lancaster carrying a 4.3 GPA on a 5.0 scale. In the classroom, Jisiah has made the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Math Honor Society.

His extracurricular activities include time spent as a Sunday School Assistant, Childcare at Seeds ESL, and his Church Youth Group. He has volunteered at the MCC Material Resource Center. His family has fostered children over the years, and Josiah has been there to entertain, care for and just plain hang out with them to make them feel at home and comfortable. Josiah also is a regular babysitter for three young children.

Josiah has also served as a “Shop with a Buckskin” leader, a service for low-income elementary kids. He also participated in a Mini-Thon fundraiser for pediatric cancer research and care. Josiah spent some time teaching science lessons to elementary children at Smoketown Elementary. .

On the lanes, Josiah has a 300 game and an 811 series to his credit. In the Lancaster Lebanon League, he won the 2024 Boys Singles, and his team took first place in the league and regionals as he maintained the second highest average on the team. In 2024 he was also awarded the Most Valuable Player Award and High Game Award (300). He also earned a title in the 222 Dutch Lanes Scholarship Tournament in 2023. Josiah just doesn’t bowl, but he has helped coach newcomers to the sport.

Josiah post high school plans are to be determined but he is interested in attending Mount Vernon Nazarene.
